How Multiple Interaction Types Affect Disease Spread and Dilution in Ecological Networks

چکیده

Ecological communities are composed of different functional guilds that engaging in multiple types biotic interactions. We explore how ecological networks fare when confronting infectious diseases according to density-dependent (DD) and frequency-dependent (FD) transmission modes. Our model shows network compositions can dictate both disease spreading the relationship between community diversity (including species richness Shannon’s diversity) as depicted dilution effect. The becomes more prevalent within harboring mutualistic interactions, generating a positive prevalence (i.e., an amplification effect). By contrast, with fixed proportion higher from balance competition predation impede Within-species increases linearly species’ degree centrality. These patterns diversity-disease hold for analyses highlight complex effects interaction on dynamics further advance debate effect host prevalence.

Diversity, decoys and the dilution effect: how ecological communities affect disease risk.

Growing interest in ecology has recently focused on the hypothesis that community diversity can mediate infection levels and disease ('dilution effect'). In turn, biodiversity loss--a widespread consequence of environmental change--can indirectly promote increases in disease, including those of medical and veterinary importance. While this work has focused primarily on correlational studies inv...

How ecological networks evolve

Ecological networks represent the backbone of biodiversity. As species diversify over macro-evolutionary time-scales, the structure of these networks changes; this happens because species are gained and lost, and therefore add or remove interactions in their communities. The mechanisms underlying such dynamic changes in ecological network structure, however, remain poorly understood. Here we sh...

: examining l2 teachers’ corrective feedback types in relation to learners’ uptake, proficiency levels, and context types

abstract this study investigates the teachers’ correction of students’ spoken errors of linguistic forms in efl classes, aiming at (a) examining the relationship between the learners’ proficiency level and the provision of corrective feedback types, (b) exploring the extent to which teachers’ use of different corrective feedback types is related to the immediate types of context in which err...

How behaviors spread in dynamic social networks

In this paper, we explore how decentralized local interactions of autonomous agents in a network relate to collective behaviors. Earlier work in this area has modeled social networks with fixed agent relations. We instead focus on dynamic social networks in which agents can rationally adjust their neighborhoods based on their individual interests. We propose a new connection evaluation theory, ...

Inference of ecological interaction networks

The inference of the interactions between organisms in an ecosystem from observational data is an important problem in ecology. This paper presents a mathematical inference method, originally developed for the inference of biochemical networks in molecular biology, adapted for the inference of networks of ecological interactions. The method is applied to a network of invertebrate families (taxa...
